God’s Real Cause I Say So!

Tonight we take a look at a preacher who attempts to rehash the Watchmaker argument several times as well as other common fallacies, including the first cause argument. God’s real because the bible says he’s real and he believes the Christian god is the right god because he believes it. God is also real because Sandcastles don’t just get there by accident.

Weekend Tube: Faithless Forum Edition

Hello Hell-Bound Friends. Tomorrow 1-9pm, if you’re in Dallas, I recommend you check out the Faithless Forum. Tickets are still available, only $20 dollars, and it is going to be a great time. However if you are like me and live in the Butthole of America, you’re not going to be able to make it and so I’m bringing the forum to you with my favorite videos from each of the guests. So let’s get to it.

GM Skeptic: Why You Lose By Being Religious

To be honest, making this list is harder than most because of the excellent videos on each of these channels. However, GM Skeptics was probably the hardest to select just one from. His content is all interesting, profound, and powerful. Check out this video and get hooked on his channel just like I did. Enjoy!

TellTale Atheist: Jehovahs Witnesses Justifying Shunning

Ok so maybe I was wrong because going through TellTale’s catalog was just as hard as going through GM Skeptics. A former Jehovah’s Witness, Telltale has an amazing story to tell and a lot to draw from. His videos flow very well and are each unique and interesting. There really isn’t a bad video to jump into his content. Subscribe to his new Science channel as well!

Godless Engineer: How a Jehovah’s Witness Questioned and Left his Faith

There are videos that Godless Engineer makes that are more entertaining, funnier, and more informative than the above one. However what Godless Engineer does is takes folks like me, and Fenrir in the video above, who are just starting out and gives them a major boost. He is all about building the community and helping small channels succeed. It’s amazing what he does and I think he’d be proud knowing I picked one of these videos on his channel for today’s list. Go subscribe today!

KC’s Corner: Jehovah’s Witness Elders Tell Us How to Stay Clean For Jehovah

KC can also be found on Godless Engineer’s channel and just as much can be said about her contributions to the community as with Godless Engineer. New to making videos of her own she hit the nail on the head with her first video and really set herself apart. She’s honestly one of the nicest people you will ever get the pleasure of meeting and is both brilliant and hilarious.

Anthony Magnabosco: Street Epistemology: Nick

Magnabosco can chat with anyone, he has a natural charm that seems to make folks enjoy talking to him. His street epistemology series teaches the finer points of leading someone towards questioning their own beliefs. Anthony Magnabosco is a modern day Socrates in my opinion, and I think some of the folks he interviews comes away with the same type of mindset as those who spoke with Socrates did in Plato’s stories.

Allie Jackson: How to Approach Hateful Thoughts and acts towards

Allie Jackson(Atheist Republic) is the one on this list today that I am less familiar with but nonetheless what I have seen of her talks and videos have been excellent. This talk discusses how to deal with some of the things that we atheists meet with on a daily basis and some great advice is provided. Check out Atheist Republic’s channel for more of Allie’s content!

Prophet of Zod: What if Everybody Wanted School Prayer

What doesn’t Prophet of Zod do? I mean seriously, he makes great response videos, has awesome interviews, and even has some great animated shorts on his channel. It’s really impossible to narrow him down to a specific style because he really does it all. Zod is an amazing creator and a really good guy, I’ve enjoyed getting to know him recently and can’t wait to see what he has in store for us in the future.

Holy Koolaid: Atheist State of the Union 2018

This is the video that made me a content creator on YouTube. I watched this, looked at Missus Snarky and said it’s time for me to tell the world my story.  9 days later i was on YouTube. So Holy Koolaid holds the distinction of being the voice that “led me out of the darkness” of sorts and since then I have made so many friends and learned so much. I wouldn’t be making videos if it wasn’t for this video and for that I will always be thankful for Holy Koolaid.

Honorable Mention: Suris the Skeptic: My De-conversion from Christianity

Not officially in the line-up but deserving to be on the list today is Suris the Skeptic. A few weeks back I was introduced to Suris by Don Michaud on Twitter. Since then I have grown to call him a friend. He makes awesome videos and is there to help. If you want to know why my audio magically got better, it’s thanks to Suris! He will be roaming around meeting all the people tomorrow. Which is good because I have no doubt that one day soon he will be a headliner at conferences like these.

Unmasking Doctrine

Unmasking Doctrine #6: Deity of Christ: The Cross

Good evening Heathens and Hell-Bound friends and foes alike! I’ve been under the weather the last week and to be honest I didn’t feel like tackling this subject on a quarter energy. I need all of my bullshit detecting abilities for this article. If you’d like to read the last in this series, click here:Unmasking Doctrine #5: Deity of Christ: Miracles. Today we are talking about the cross.

pexels-photo-208315

The Assembly of God church teaches that it is only through the death of Christ on the cross, that any of us have an ability to make it to heaven. the verses that they present to support this stand are.

These scriptures taken in context mean that Christ died so that we could all be saved. The second verse states that Christ became sin so that he could free of of the burden that sin places upon us. So I’m not going to fault the AoG or any other church that teaches this doctrine because it’s how the bible teaches. However, what I will be doing is taking the bible itself to task for this barbaric and disgusting set of circumstances.

blood

Christianity is a Blood Cult of Human Sacrifice

Why does god require blood in order to forgive us of our sins? Did god not make the rules? Did he not come up with the plan? Why on earth does an all-powerful, all-knowing, and all-good creator deity require a blood sacrifice? Do you want to know why god required this? He didn’t because the god of the Bible does not exist. I can state this with absolute certainty that a good god who is all-knowing would never create a set of circumstances that requires a human being, even if that human was god in human form, be sacrificed in order to carry out any of his plan.

Man created this story and this plan. Only man would come up with something as disgusting as a human sacrifice being required. It’s not like it’s anything new. Humans have been sacrificing one another since the beginning of recorded history, in an effort to appease one god or another. This is simply another version of the same tale with slightly different premises.

The key to understanding this is that if god makes the rules then there is not, nor can there be, any justification for teaching that a blood sacrifice be required for the cleansing of humanities sins. Animal sacrifice was bad enough. I mean think of all the doves, lambs, cattle, and others that were sacrificed and simply burnt in an effort to cleanse men of sins that they had supposedly committed.  It’s truly monstrous and disgusting. No real creator would require something as base as blood in order to make amends with it, I mean what kind of monster is the god that you are trying to promote?

The Cross is Anti-Biblical

The Prophet Ezekiel states in Ezekiel 18:20-

“The one who sins is the one who will die. The child will not share the guilt of the parent, nor will the parent share the guilt of the child. The righteousness of the righteous will be credited to them, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against them. “

What the prophet is saying here is that you cannot stand in for another persons sin, it doesn’t work that way. We are required to be responsible for our own wrongs and in the end we are blessed or punished for those practices. I’m not agreeing with this sentiment since I don’t believe in any form of celestial karma or end of life punishment however what I do agree with is that it is no ones right or responsibility to take responsibility for mine or anyone else’s sin. This becomes especially true when you try telling me that someone had to be brutally murdered in order for my sins to be taken care of.

That’s not something I want on my consciousness no matter if it were true or not. I don’t want the blood of another to be used as an excuse for why I can basically do whatever I want in this life as long as I repent in that person’s name before death. Would it be fair for a person accused of murder to say, well sure I did it but I’m going to run free because Joe from the local convenience store has decided that he’ll go to the chair in my place? Hell no it wouldn’t but this is the exact same rhetoric being pushed by the churches.

God as Man is still god

Think about some of the other stories from the bible of men who supposedly did great things. Now think of Jesus. What is the difference? Well according to the AoG jesus is god and so instead of being a man he is god in human form. Sure he went through a lot but think of a being that has always existed and then think of the sacrifice. The time period of pain is almost non-existent that it would be like us stubbing our toe. God so loved the world that he stubbed his toe so that you could have everlasting life. The very fact that Jesus is god removes every redeeming quality from this story.

Secondly on this part I want you to realize that if we are to believe the biblical story this was all a part of gods plan. Now god knows everything, and so he knew when he created man who one day he would have to come to earth as a man and die for our sins, since god requires blood for shit. That’s an eternity to prepare yourself for a moments worth of pain. Zen Buddhists can do this and they only have one lifetime to prepare for is yet they have immolated themselves in an effort to point out what they perceived as the evils of humanity.

God spending an eternity preparing for his already planned demise is less than what we find human beings doing for one another every day of the week. A man takes a bullet for another is 10 times greater than Christ’s sacrifice, since the man taking the bullet couldn’t prepare for the pain and had to do so without thinking about it. A mother who gives her life so that her children survive is greater than Christs sacrifice because she has no assurance of any eternity that she will spend reaping the rewards of that sacrifice.

The death of Jesus is little more than an awful story of an awful god’s piss poor planning. Nothing more, nothing less.

Bad Theism · Inoculation Against Indoctrination

Inoculation Against Indoctrination: Ages 4-6: Jesus Loves You

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
-Proverbs 22:6

Good evening Heathens and Hell-Bound friends and foes alike! Tonight will be the second official article in my series about religious indoctrination. If you’d like to read the first article in this series, click here: Inoculation Against Indoctrination: Ages 0-3: Sights and Sounds.

I can remember the first Sunday that I left the Nursery Class and entered into the Beginner Class at Sunday school. There were still games and songs but the lessons actually took on actual stories from the Bible, or at least a form of these stories with all of the grit removed. Isn’t it somewhat strange that the Bible has sections considered too graphic for children? That’s a bit odd to me.

So while you will be learning the Bible you won’t be getting the full story. Instead what you get is a fluffy and loving approach to these stories. This serves a purpose, one that I doubt many religious leaders would admit. It provides small children with the idea that god loves them, that he would never do anything to harm them, and that he never does anything bad. Truth be told, many believers never get past this stage of the stories, they never read deeper or ask questions and so the story remains in their mind a blissful myth filled with unicorns, giant fish, and talking donkeys.

Some things that these children will not be told at this stage in life is just how much god acts like a petulant child in these stories. Nearly every story from the old testament, the source of most of these kids lessons at this age, has god killing a person, or many people simply for not loving him in the right way.

noah

Stories you will find at this stage:

  • Noah and all the fluffy animals
  • Balaam and the funny talking donkey
  • Adam and Eve and the big bad snake
  • Old people having a baby
  • Joseph and his multi-colored coat

drowning

Stories that you will not find

  • God murdering countless children in the flood
  • A guy beating his donkey for not going to the place that god told him to go….because god is a trickster and tells the man one thing and the angel another.
  • Adam and Eve being punished for sinning before they knew what sin was.
  • An old man willing to murder his child for god.
  • How the pyramids were built for grain.

Ok I added the last one as a joke, Sadly they might learn that completely illogical idea in many of America’s churches. Our government even has members who believe this nonsense…

That’s Dr. Ben Carson, a neurosurgeon, and current secretary of housing and urban development. I share this simply to point out that you can be both incredibly intelligent in one facet of your life as well as incredibly dumb in other facets of life. Please stick with separating twins Dr. Carson and leave the pyramids to the archaeologists.

shrugged

Tonight I want to touch on one story…first I will give you the biblical version and then I will give you the child friendly version. The story I will use as an example is Noah and his famed ark.

Biblical Version:

So Noah is 500 years old and he then he has three sons. We’re then told how angels are horny and impregnate women with giants. God doesn’t like giants and he doesn’t like mankind. The bible specifically says…

“The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled.” -Genesis 6:5-6

So god feels really bad about creating mankind and so he decides to kill them. Just before he wipes out all of mankind he sees this guy, Noah, who is over 500 years old, and thinks, “Boy he sure is awesome.”

lions

God then tells Noah to build a giant boat, out of wood, and fill it with all the animals on earth. 2×2 or 7×7 depending on which chapter you’re reading, and whether the animals were clean or unclean….even though animal cleanness would not be discussed until several centuries in the future during the time of Moses. Noah does all of this and 100 years later the flood occurs. Killing all of mankind.

I want to point out. Nowhere in the old testament story does it say that Noah preached or tried to save anyone other than himself and his family. God specifically says he is going to save Just Noah and his family, there was never a chance for anyone else to receive this salvation.

So anyway God sends the flood and kills everyone other than Noah’s family because, reasons, that’s why. They are on the boat for 40 days and 40 nights, then the flood covers the earth for 150 days. It then begins to go down taking several more months, stating that when they finally reach dry land Noah is in his 601st year. They then disembark, Noah sacrifices a bunch of the animals to god, because why save them if you aren’t going to burn some of them, and then god sends a rainbow and some excellent dance music.

noah2

Children’s Version

There were bad people on the earth, you know bad guys, the kinds that superheroes fight, well the earth was filled with them. This made god very sad and so he decided to flood the earth and get rid of all the bad guys. Before he did this he saw Noah, who was a very good man, and told him to build a boat to save the animals in. Noah built the boat, filled it with all the animals on earth. Dogs, Cats, Pigs, Birdies, Snakes, Chickens, Penguins, Kangaroos, Naked Mole Rats, Coyotes, Lions, Tigers, and Bears…OH MY!

After Noah preached for a very long time. The bad people didn’t listen and so god sent the flood. It then rained for 40 days and 40 nights. After this they get off the boat and god sends a rainbow and some awesome dance music.

Children do not have it explained that god is murdering everyone. They don’t have it explained that god kills all the other cuddly animals that don’t make it on the boat. They also are not told that after they disembark the ark, god has Noah cut up and burn a bunch of the animals he just saved. Every questionable part of the story is removed in order to make it child friendly.

This is pretty funny to me since the bible is supposed to be so easy to understand that even a child could grasp it and two if god does nothing bad then why are children shielded from the more gruesome details of this story?

img_2516

You’ll find that every biblical story told to children has been dumbed down and cleansed of any of gods more questionable aspects. The reason for this is simple. If you make the bible fun, if you make it cute, if you make it fast paced and easy to remember, then these stories will stick with people long after these stories have been told to them. This is the beginning of indoctrination and is readying children for the next stage, telling them they are completely evil without god.

Bad Theism

Bad Theism: The God of the Book Deal

Good evening heathens and hell-bound friends and foes alike! For the last Bad theism article, click here: Bad Theism: Finely Tuned Bull****. Now, if you’ve spent any time on my blog you will know that I take it to the bible quite a bit. It’s a book filled with genocide, slavery, tape, misogyny, homophobia, and all sorts of other awful stuff. Well, tonight I am not going to beat up on the scriptures at all…that’s because tonight I’m going to beat up on the idea of the bible itself.

lazy god

Let’s say you are the god of the universe and you want to get your ideas across to the people who you created in the best way possible, so where do you start? Well, obviously it would be easiest to simply speak your rules and values to the minds of all your creation… but that’s not your style is it? No…you’re way too cool for that…so you’re going to write a book. Now being all-powerful it would be completely within your power to write the book yourself and give it out to all the people of the world, I mean you don’t want people going astray and by the time writing was invented, the population of the globe was pretty damn widespread. No…that would be too easy for you and there would be no subservience in that method, so you’re going to get someone else to write the book for you… Lastly, what language are you going to choose? Egyptian? Chinese? Babylonian? Fuck that, you are hipster god, you’re writing that shit in Hebrew, a language known only to a small group of people, in a small region of the world.

Does any of that make sense to you?

shrugged

Let’s look at it from the outside…why do you even need a book to begin with? It seems rather strange that the god of everything would need men to write down his wants in order to fulfill them. That means that up until the invention of writing, man was way better off. Think of that, god had to wait for writing to be invented so that he could have men write his book for him…it’s ridiculous.

Now let’s look at how many translations have been necessary over the years. Doesn’t that strike you as odd? If it truly was a holy book, then wouldn’t people automatically be able to read it? I mean if the information contained is the only thing that is going to keep certain people from going to hell why would you create it in a form that has to constantly be updated?

The fact that god’s book can even be updated seems a bit strange to me as well. As a former fundamentalist I have heard many people speak ill against the NIV, the ESV, and the NKJV. Usually it goes along the lines that god’s word is perfect and so it needs not be updated. Yet, do these same people ever consider that just the steps from the original languages required a huge amount of changes and in some areas a lot of guessing. This isn’t me just making things up, read any bible with footnotes, including the KJV, and you will see tons of scriptures that state what a scripture could also be translated as. Sometimes this is a change in measurement, but other times it changes the entire meaning of the scripture, and in some cases might point out that people are not even sure if a certain section of a book is even in the original texts.

What most Christians don’t realize is that we lack the originals to biblical manuscripts for the gospels. What this means is that we are often working with copies, of copies, of copies… copies by hand almost always lead to errors and yet we are supposed to believe that the copies used are perfect and that any translations later made are not as perfect. It makes absolutely no god damned sense…

mark
I’m not Mark….

Another thing that most Christians don’t realize is that the names of the Biblical books do not always point to who actually wrote the damn book. Matthew was not written by the apostle Matthew, nor were Mark, Luke, or John…these are simply names given to these books that have been agreed upon for centuries, simply due to the fact that it has been agreed upon for centuries.

Yet another example, The book of Isaiah, is actually a book written by multiple authors, that was later mashed together in order to make a single book. We know this because the writing styles of the two authors are completely different, something that does not tend to happen in a work written by a single person. If you’ve read this blog you get to know my voice and if my voice were to completely change you’d know quickly that someone else was writing for me.

shit.jpg

I won’t even touch on the idea that Moses wrote the first four books….okay maybe I will just a bit…Moses…did not exist…the exodus did not happen…the Egyptians never had millions of Israelite slaves, and they were never stuck in the desert for 40 years. There is zero, and I do mean zero evidence of anything like this ever happening….It’s all bullshit.

Lastly, I want to touch on the idea of timing. So let’s say you just saw the savior ascend into the clouds, he told you that it was your job to preach the good news of his return to all of mankind, and he obviously told you a lot of important information that you will need to remember, I’m pretty sure you’d get to writing…or hell, why didn’t the disciples include a stenographer? Yet once again, the books of the New Testament are written decades, sometimes 50+ years, after the events were said to occur.

graduation.png

Let me give you an example…for most people their graduation from high school was a fairly important event in their lives. You spend years in school and now you are finally ready to enter the world. Graduations generally involve a guest speaker who gives a speech which is meant to encourage you and your peers as you enter the world…

Now I want you to give me the exact speech that your guest speaker gave, verbatim. You can’t do it…you might remember the general theme, some of the basic ideas, but you aren’t going to remember enough to write every word that the speaker said.

Yet you expect us to believe that the writers of the new testament did exactly that, even though Jesus spends a good deal of time talking down to his disciples for being piss poor at paying attention…isn’t that odd?

angry-jesus

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the bible just does not stand up to scrutiny. Not only is it an awful book due to the scriptures held within its pages, but it also simply doesn’t make sense for a god to communicate with its creation through a book…and this goes for any religion whose god has a book deal, they are all filled with the same sort of bullshit and the same strange fact that god required men to write his or her holy words down….it makes no sense.
